Presently, Federation University Dustin-ma, Katsina State (FUDMA) operates on two separate Halls of Residence, male and female. The male hall of residence is however of two branches with one located deep in the town, Hayin-Gada Street to be precise while the other one is located in Darawa, a village close to the school take-off campus along Katsina road. Likewise the Female hall of residence, there are also two branches. The first one is located at Isa Keita College of Education while the other branch is located right inside the school take-off campus. The male hall of residence located in Hayin-Gada is mainly for 100L level students- fresh students while the other one located in Darawa , for 400L and 500L- final year students only. The Female halls of residence are believed not split into categories like the male hall.

However, in these halls of residence, there are basic Dos and Don’ts put in place to checkmate or regulate certain activities of the student occupants, especially the new students coming in to take abode in these halls. This article intends to look at some of those basic principles put in place so as to help equip new students with the foreknowledge of things obtainable in the halls. It will also serve as guide to achieving a successful stay in any of the halls.

The first of these basic Dos and Don’ts is the use of gas cylinder. In the school halls of residence, the use of gas cylinder is completely prohibited, and any student caught with it risks ejection from the hall and also stands the chance to face further punishment from the school authority.

Secondly, the use some electrical appliances such as hot plate and water heater, etc,… This is not tolerated at all, and any student caught using any of the above mentioned appliances wrongly, particular with generator when put on at night stands the chance of losing it.

Also in the halls of residence, as a student occupant, you are not permitted to fight against anybody. Peradventure you are offended by anybody, it is advisable you visit the residential officers and a make formal report of whatever be the problem to them for proper handling. But going on to fight without this step taken, you stand the chance of forfeiting your space in the hall of residence and you could be further punished.

Another thing that must not be tried by students occupying these halls of residence is stealing. Stealing is the worst act a student must not be caught in here because it has zero mercy. It is better not tried at all because of the dangers that follow. In this case, such student will not only be suspended from the hall of residence but could as well risk rustication.

Furthermore, partying, defacing of room walls, secret association, inviting opposite sex to the hall of residence without formal permission, fighting with the officers in charge of the residence, destroying school properties, waging of bed space and messing up the vicinities, all attract severe punishment from the school authority.

Moreover, students are to report to their respective hall keepers or officers any suspicious movement or strange face found around. Also, they are to report any electrical issues to the officers in charge of the hall for fixing and not to be attempted by self. Make a report of any poor welfareism such as low water supply and first aid system.

Finally, as distinguished students of this noble institution, and who wish to have a wonderful stay in any of the halls of residence, it is of utmost priority that you must comply and adhere strictly to these set rules.

Note: this is not an all encompassing write up, recommending all the rules guiding the use of these halls of residence but a sketch of some basic Dos and Don’ts that the new incoming students must be aware of.

God uses anyone

In life, the virtue of humility is a necessary evil. In the sense that, if you aren’t good to everyone you meet today, you can never tell who will help you tomorrow. After all the Bible says, ” Do to others what you want them to do to you.”

Once, there arouse great conflict in a monastery, whereby there was a daily report of one issues/quarrels or other. The sisters in charge decided to hold a retreat as a result. Having invited an elderly priest to officiate the retreat and also highlighted him about the recent happenings in the monastery that prompted the retreat.
On the first day of the retreat, during one of his sermons the priest fell into trance and began to say,” there is an angel of God in your midst!!!”. He said repeated. After recovering from the trance, he left the school abruptly.

Leaving the entire congregation in total awe. Every monk suddenly became very nice to each other including those of them who were keeping  malice and those who had one or two issues against another.

The sisters having noticed this drastic change asked one some of them why the sudden change. They replied, “there is an Angel of God amongst us, we don’t know who but then, we only know that we have to be good to the Angel, so that he can ask God to bless us and answer our prayers.”

On the last day of the retreat, the Priest came back to give them another sermon. Having confirmed that they were unable to identify the Angel. He explained to them that, they are all special Angels in their own little ways. So they have to be good, kind and tolerant with each other, because they never who would be the ‘real Angel’.

Today you might be the President of the country and tomorrow you might be worst than the beggar on the streets. It doesn’t take God up to 24 hours to change your story. So be careful how you treat the person the next person you see, you never can tell who will catch you when you fall.

Therefore, be good to everyone you meet. Even when they hate and despise you still be good to them, you never know what the future holds.

Talking about Resolutions

Take responsibility for your actions and inactions. Never strike a pointing hand at( blame) anyone because that is the root of every problem.

“We study the past to correct the present and to change the future”, so do the historians say. In other words we read to exploit from others mistakes, so that our lives would be better and that we don’t repeat the same mistakes they made.

Now talking about our resolutions for the new year, we discovered that many people write their resolutions because others everybody’s is writing it, which shouldn’t be so.

A Resolution is a strong will, determination, vows or a statement of intentions. Just as the name implies, “re- solution”, a plan to solve a problems or a solution to a ….

Personally, I will say that a resolution is like a scale. Better still, a self growth evaluation of year, either physically, mentally, socially, spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically. To see where you are lacking and where you are increasing. It all depends on how all this affects your life and principles for a balance.

When I was drawing this years’ resolutions, I actually realized that for quite some years now, i haven’t been able to actualise most of my resolutions. In fact, I was amongst those that when it comes to writing resolutions, I do so for formality. And it wasn’t usually a surprise when even before January ends I have forgotten my resolutions.

Speaking to one of my mentors about these, he said, ” it’s good that you made an efforts at least, but then you need to wake up!, you have to take it gradually. Instead of a resolution make a drop-back”.
Sincerely, that was the beginning of better days for me, from then onwards things changed for the better.

Drop back is a much slow process of keeping your resolutions in check, meaning that you will judiciously, drop one of your old habits in exchange for new or rather, drop one odd habit slowly but consciously. It’s simply a long but short term goal resolution.

For instance, I am an chain smoker, and my new year drop-back is smoking. Now instead of promptly putting a stop to smoking as a new year resolution may suggest. A drop-back will take a much more gradual process.

Like,  If I take 5 packs of cigarette a month, my drop-back will make it 4 an a half packs a month, gradually my system will adjust to that. Then,I will move to 3 packs pending on how fast my system adjusts to it. And so on until it reaches 1 stick of cigarette a month.

If I judiciously take it that way, before the end of the year, I would have successfully dropped smoking.

Again, for instance if my new year drop-back is make reading a hobby. First I will start by reading one page everyday. For maybe a month. Then a chapter everyday. Gradually, I will finish a book in a week and days and so on.

It maybe your spiritual life that needs a change, or your physical looks that needs a change, or anything, you just need to change something about you, for the year.

Like a wise philosopher will say, ”

If you can’t fly, you run!

 If  you can’t run, walk!

If you can’t walk, crawl!

It doesn’t matter what you do, Just do everything you can to keep moving.”

So start small, and end big. ‘Slow and steady wins the race.’ Do something for a change. If you can  drop-back one bad habit every year, before you know it you will be anything you choose to be. ‘You will never know how far you will fly until try’

Wake up! And move!!!

A difference

Are you in still doubt?

Not sure on where to start and how to start? Start from nothing to something.

Commit your life to Christ and start following Him just as Gideon did. Although, Gideon came from a family of idol worshippers, so he didn’t think he had much of a future. But God thought differently. He said to him, Go in the strength you have and save isreal out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” And today Gideon is remembered as one of the greatest leaders in the Bible. That’s the power of one!

Do you doubt that one person can make a difference?

Winston Churchill convinced England they could survive the Nazi war machine. Lee lacocca turned Chrysler around and saved the company.

Florence Nightingale transformed the care of patients by emphasizing sanitary design and hygiene in hospitals, practices that carry over to this day.Rosa parks, a lone black woman, overturned two centuries of racial discrimination.

You don’t have to be  a George Washington, an Abraham Lincoln, or a mother Theresa to make a difference. Your influence may not be as far-reaching as theirs, but “charity begins at home”, which means you can grow and thrive where you are planted.

In A Psalm of Life, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow writes,”Lives of great men all reminds us, we can make our lives sublime; and departing, leave behind us, footprints on the Sand of time”.

Like Gideon, you may not be able to change your family history or undo your past mistakes. But you can learn from them, grow, and create a legacy that outshines your heritage.

God told His people: “See, I set before you life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love your God and work in His ways, and God will bless you”, Deuteronomy 30:15.

One person with the love of God in their heart can start a chain reaction.

John Wilkes Booth shocked the world by assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. At the time, Booth’s brother Edwin was considered one of the greatest actors in America. Yet, believing that the family name had been shamed forever, he retired from acting and went into seclusion.

But His legacy turned out not to be one of death and disappointment, but of life and influence. A few years before Lincoln’s assassination, Edwin was at a train station in Jersey city, New Jersey.

He was standing nearby when a young man lost his footing on the platform and almost fell into the path of a moving train. Without hesitation, Edwin rescued the young man by reaching down and pulling him upby his collar.

There was a brief exchange of gratitude, but Edwin never dreamed how significant that moment would become. Some years later, he received a letter from then President Ulysses Grant thanking Him for his heroic deed. Why? Because the young man he saved was Robert Todd Lincoln, the son of Abraham Lincoln.

Edwin Booth took that letter to his grave; as a reminder that we may not be able to change our past but we can certainly change our future. And by  God’s grace you can also change yours too!

Stand out! And be outstanding

Make a difference!

And show how unique you are!

The value of little beginnings

James 4:1-4, where do all the quarrels among you come from? why the quarrels between you? Your desires for something and you don’t get, there is hunger because you don’t get. You are lacking because you don’t pray, because you are selfish with your prayers.

Most story of the three men with talents (Matthew 25:14-30), God gave these three men each talents; the first, he gave 5 talents, the second he gave 3 talents and the third he gave 1 talent. He gave these men talents that there are able to handle. The first two utilized theirs but the third didn’t, and he was deprived of the little he had.

Life is  risk, that is inevitable; ‘a compulsory evil’. We cannot invest and improve upon what we do Not value. If you are not strong enough to be a mountain, then, be a hill or rather still, be an ant but, be the best of which ever one you choose.

More so, if you want to buy a car and you don’t have enough money to buy a good one, then buy the best bicycle that you can afford and if you can’t buy the best bicycle then buy the best Italian shoe that will help you trek well, so that when people see you, they will know that you will one day buy a car instead of been jealous of another persons’.

Instead of been jealous of anyone, work harder to get yours. And be motivated to do yours in your own unique and better way.

When envy sets in, it breeds low self- esteem, thereby causing wickedness, quarrels and  other ills in the society, which most often times causes immorality like prostitution, arm robbery, etc

Lucky Dube once said, “In the past Bob Marley used to say, why do we stand and look while our Prophets are killed not knowing that now is the time when people kill themselves like animals due to selfishness and jealousy”.

It’s only people who don’t know nor value what  they have, that will be jealous of others. If you don’t know the value of what you have, your ignorance will keep you in poverty and misery just as the third man who was give one talent but didn’t use his talents and his talent was taken away, then he became poorer than he ever was.

Not utilizing your gifts or talents, Is also the same as not been grateful for God’s blessing. And if you don’t still value what you have, please, pay a visit to the mortuary or prison. Then you will understand, the need to value of what you have.

The inability to value what you have, also blinds you from endless opportunities. One man said, that when he was in school they call him MuMu( someone who us senseless or stupid)  like Mr. IBU yet he is using that stupidity in comedy as His own talent to make people laugh. And to feed himself and his family through this media.

God is not concerned about who you are, what you have or don’t have, he is only concerned about what He Can Make Of You. What is important is that; God works with values, our sincere little efforts and works to perfects it.

Further more, be determined in whatever you do and be patient with God and time. Destiny can not be denied but only delayed.

Most of the successful businesses started from small and humble beginning with determination and patience, they were able to make it this far. Saint Theresa said, my one penny plus Christ is equal to success”. Lastly, no matter how bad the situation may seem, just endeavor to start from somewhere. You will never know how far you will go unless you try

who is God?

As Christians we all have the responsibility of evangelizing about sharing the good news, some through their preaching, others through their talents, and some through their lifestyle.

Personally, I dont why or how but am never good at evangelizing to people. Whenever  I am called upon for such I become short of words.

Not until recently, I realized that every Christian is actually an evangelizer. The only problem here, is we want to evangelize( tell the story of God) the way Moses did, we want to evangelize just as Isaiah did. And in the process forgetting that we are the prophets of our own time.

This question changed my perspective about evangelism, Someone walked up to me one day asking, “Sister Eunice, who do you say is your God ?”
For I while I was puzzled, I asked myself that same question over and over again before I finally replied,” God is my friend and brother. I don’t know about others but God is my everything, i don’t even know how to explain it but God is just everything “.

Whenever i pray to Him, he comforts  me that I no longer feel the pain or burden of life. You know, I don’t know how to pray fiercely or something like that, but by the little prayer I say everyday, He is all seeks to grant.

I prefer talking to God than chatting with friends because when I confide in friends, they can’t help but pity my situation and some will either betray me by gossipin about it or pray to God to grant solutions to my problems. But God,whenever I confide in Him, He will not only listens, and takes away the pain I feel, but also makes sure that my problems are solved beyond comprehension.

There is no greater or better friend than Jesus. Sometimes, my Mum complains about the way I approach God, saying I’m too direct but then I will always say, God knows all, it’s far more better to be too ‘direct’  to Him in your pure intensions than to pretend to be something else in His presence.

There are too many things to say about this wondeeful God. But the best story is said by it’s own author. So I urge you today to encounter Him in your own way then and only then, will you be able to tell people about Him and live a better life with Him as your guide.

Sometimes, it’s not all about praying ( binding and casting) and preaching. It’s also about the personal encounter with God. Although, I am not good at preaching but through this my own little encounter with God I’m able to reach out someone, all is good, the same reason binds us as in in Christ as we all work for the glory of His name.

I don’t know if my own definition of God is the best or worst but that was how I was able to influence that lady that asked me the question and am very sure that she will one day tell her own story about God.

If you have never figured out this question, then you need to go back to the drawing board. What are you waiting for! Tell us your story, “Who is God to you”?

My testimony

Personally, I don’t like sharing testimonies not until I met with a friend who told me the need to share your testimony, which after giving it a thought, I realized it was true.

According to him, ” to share your testimonies is to receive more testimonies, it’s a form of Thanksgiving to God for what he has done for you, and also a means to reach out to another person through your experience “.

At about 2pm, we received a call from Ebonyi that my Dad was involved in an accident involving a truck. Although I was asleep when the call came in, yet, the moment I heard accident. I jumped out of my bed asking questions, wishing that someone will tell me it was a joke or a bad dream.
Daddy! Accident?…. Was the only only thing I could manage to say, so many thoughts ran through my head. Tears began to gather in my eyes as I remembered how far we were from my Dad; he works in Ebonyi Abakaliki state and we are in katsina state. About 2days journey from each of the States to the other.

I began crying to God to help my Dad, I sincerely prayed for a miracle. That God should help my Dad come out from the accident in a good condition.

By 7am in the morning we tried calling again to see the condition of things over there. To be sincere I had already started packing to go to my Dad. I just couldn’t bear the thought of anything bad happening to him over there and none of us was there beside him.

Fortunately, I was very relieved to hear my Dad’s voice. He told us that he wasn’t really injured, that it was only his car that was seriously damaged, he was even heading to the office at about the time I called.

That same morning, after the call with my Dad, my Mum prepared for work while I made some breakfast for us. Suddenly I heard a loud scream from the room, it was my Mum. I ran speedily to see what happened.
I saw my Mum in pains on the floor, her hand was bleeding. She was bit by something out of the ordinary, I was suspecting either Snake or scorpion inside her bedroom. It sounds strange impossible, right.

We searched the entire house with my dog to see if there was something like that but all to no avail, there was no sign of either scorpion or snake in the house. The bitten hand was swollen within a twinkle of an eye. Mum was rushed to the hospital. Yet, The treatment she was given at the hospital wasn’t effective enough to subside the pain.

I began crying, I felt like that day was the worst day of my life. It was as if my whole world was falling to pieces in front of my eyes. Again, I ran to God in prayers, I was short of words but I knew he felt my pain.

‘I just wanted Him to; keep my family safe, heal my Mum and Dad, and take away this miserable day’, I prayed. I opened my eyes with great relieve from the burden of the day.In the evening I went to church, I made the same prayers, and sang praises to God and even gave a testimony of faith about it in our youth fellowship.

That was the beginning of my testimony, You know, not everyone got out of a car accident alive talk more of a collision with a truck, it could be disastrous at times, but my Dad not only survive it, he also came out without any serious injury. Also, Mum was brought from the hospital much better and relieved than she had been earlier in the day.

That moment, I realized how awesome God really is. He changes our sorrows to joy, our sadness to happiness. He is indeed an awesome.

More so, if you were like me that didn’t like to give a testimony, start now. You will never know how many lives you would change through your testimony.

Testimony is simply a prove ( testify) that  you have passed the test which God has placed before you.

Hail! Mary

Hail Mary! Full of grace the Lord is with you, blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and the hour of our death, Amen.

This woman is one of the most important aspects of my life. In fact, am a living testimony of her forever loving and caring existence.

She is Mary Mother of the child Jesus. We call her; Our mother of perpetual Help, The Mediatrix of all graces,  The immaculate heart of Mary, The Queen of Heaven and earth,  Virgin most powerful and merciful, Queen of Nigeria, Queen of  the most Holy Rosary and lots more

Since I was a little girl, I see people pray to her using the Rosary, and honor her. Although I knew nothing about her, I felt drawn to her. I neither knew how the prayers was said, nor believed that if I prayed to her, she would listen.

But I would always go to the grotto and sit there for hours with altering any prayer or anything of that sort. Yet, I felt at peace and relaxed whenever I was there.

I would stare at her beautiful dress(which was never seen in the market) but only on her. Her hands always opened as if she wanted a big hug but the statue was framed, there was no way I could open it to give her that ‘warm embrace’. Her piercing and loving eyes looking down on me, like a mother looking at her helpless daughter.

This things kept me inquisitive to know more about her. And then, it occurred to me, ” test and see that the Lord is good!”.

Then, I began asking questions about her. Although, I didn’t get much from my little findings, I was satisfied enough to get to interact with her myself.

I would go to her, as a friend. Sit, and talk to her about everything in my life with my problems.

At first, it was crazy but I never felt absurd about it rather I always felt lighter whenever I prayed to her, like she was always there to listen and I believed it was so and it worked for me.

Gradually, I became closer to our Blessed Virgin Mary, she is indeed a mother to all. She consoles me (just as she consoled Jesus in His trial and crucifixion) and intercedes for my prayers to God (like she did at the wedding in Canaan) and most of all, my best friend.

Once a friend elucidated that, just as the mother is plays a very important role in the family. So also is the mother Mary very important in the life, role, and mission of Jesus. He never refuses anything she asks of Him; just as illustrated in the wedding in Canaan.

So I equally urged you to know her more by yourself. Go out for it and you will never regret it. Because, she is the perfect example of a good mother, Role model and friend.

You must not know all the prayers to know her. You just have to learn to communicate with her with your pure heart.

Here is a little prayer to our mother, enough to move mountains!

Remember, oh most virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who sort thy intersection. Implore your aid nor sort your assistance was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence I fly unto thee, my mother. To thee I call, before thee I plead sinful and sorrowful. Oh  mother of the word ‘ incarnate’ despise not my petition but in your mercy, hear and answer my humble prayers.

The war room

I think everyone has his/ her definition of the war room. Just as the name implies, it’s a room( more like a closet) meant solely for war/ battle. But then i realized that we can only be victorious in this battle if we fight the right person.
I first came in contact with the word in a movie, I love the movie so much ‘ the war room‘. Ironically, It helped me discover so many incredible things about my faith in Christ Jesus.

I also realized that, “Satan comes only to kill( our joy and happiness), to steal( our loved ones) and to destroy( our lives and that of our families)”. But then, we can only defeat him when we, “Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee”

This are just my own take home from the film, l can’t even say everything, but I will leave you to watch and learn.

God in your neighbour

According to St Matthew’s Gospel 22:34-40, we are told the greatest commandments of God, which is,’to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our strength. And to love our neighbors as we do ourselves’.

Therefore, if you say you love God, you must first and foremost love your neighbor. The love of God is equivalent to the love of your neighbour. Like St. John says, “you can’t claim to love God whom you do not see and hate your neighbor whom you see”.

We need to show God how much we really love Him by loving our neighbours. It’s not just by mere words but also by our action. Then the second question comes to mind:

Who is my neighbour?
Your neighbour is not just the person that sits next to you or the person that lives next door.

Now a days  I realize that people choose their neighbours. They choose who they like or want to sit next to them in church, meeting or any social gathering.

Your neighbour is everyone that needs the help/ assistance which you can render to them; it may be in your house ( your next door neighbour), at school, in the market place, in church/ mosque or at work.

It could even be that girls that smells,  that boy that can not speak correct English, that drunkard is your street, that woman that wears rags, that boy that doesn’t have manners, and so on is your neighbour.

You might not even need to go too far to spot these people, they are calling on you to love them, help them and if necessary care for them just as you would Christ.

There was a woman that fervently prayed  for God for ‘divine visitation’. Finally, the Lord answered her prayers and promised to come, on a stipulated day which he disclosed to her.

This lady woke up as early as 3am  that day, did a thorough cleaning of everything in her house, prepared varieties of delicious dishes, she made sure that everything was perfect for the Lord’s visit.

Then her neighbour knocked at her door and asked her to help him with her car, that he just ran out of fuel in his car and wanted to get some in the near by filling station.

The lady bluntly refused saying that she was expecting a very important guest and would not know the exact time of His arrival so she could pick Him.

The lady waited till the end of the day but Jesus never showed up, instead, she was getting ‘annoying visitors each following the other’.

The next person that knocked on her door was a little boy beggar who was wearing rags, he begged for anything she could spare to give like food, water or even little money. But again she refused to help saying she didn’t want her  ver important guest to without food.

Just at tge time the woman was getting both angry and tired of waiting for the Lord’s visit, again another an old man also knocked on her door saying he needed shelter for the night as he was a traveler. In anger she shouter at him to her house immediately.

Later in the night while she prayed she  complained to Lord, that she waited earnestly for His arrival but to no avail.

Then Jesus replied,”I can 3times to you but you refused to let me in”.

The woman was surprised and said, ‘Lord, when did you come, I waited the whole day but they was no sign of you’

“I asked for your car and she refused, again I asked for water to drink or food to eat but then you also didn’t give me. Then, I pleaded to stay with you for the night and again you refused to let me in. I came as your neighbour but you refused me”.

Therefore, this is how the woman lost golden opportunity to see the Lord, because she failed to love her neighbours.

Now, the next question that might be running through your mind;

How do I show this love to my neighbour?
Matthew 7:12 gives us a clue which says,”Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you”. John Maxwell tells in his book ‘the Giants’ how to implement this to action;

  1. If you’ve a problem with me, come and see me privately. I would do same for you
  2. If someone else has a problem with me and comes to you, send them to me. I’ll do same.
  3. If someone won’t come to me, say, “let’s go see him together”. I’ll do same for you.
  4. Be careful how you interpret me,I would rather do that( it’s too easy to misinterpret intentions)
  5. If it’s confidential, don’t tell. If you or anyone else comes to me in confidence, I won’t tell, unless they are going to harm someone, themselves or abuse a child physically or otherwise
  6. I don’t read unsigned letters
  7. I don’t manipulate, I won’t manipulate and don’t try let others manipulate me through you
  8. When in doubt, just say so. If I can answer without breaking confidence, I will.

Those 8 rules can be reduced to one statement,” Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you “.

Finally, Good marriages, good relationships, good businesses, friendships are based on this. Also, always show your love for through your neighbour ( person in need of your help). Maybe then, our lives will be more meaningful and complete.

Fear and worry

Today, if you are viewing your future from a position of fear or worry, I want you to check it well, because that view can not be correct. Instead, view your future from a position of faith. That’s the truth. Worry is simply the triumph of fear over faith.

There is a story about a woman who was standing on the streets and crying profusely. A man came asking her why she was weeping.

The lady shook her head and replied, ” I was just thinking that maybe someday I would get married. We would have a beautiful baby girl. Then one day this child and I would go for a walk along this street and my Darling daughter would run into the street, get hit by a car and die”.

It sounds like a ridiculous situation-weeping because of something that will probably never happen. Yet we act this way when we worry. We blow a situation beyond proportion that might not come to be.

An old Swedish proverb states,” worry gives a small thing aa very big shadow. Worry is simply the misuse of the creative imagination that God has placed within us.

When fear arises in our minds, we only imagine worst situations out of reality, we should learn to expect the opposite in our lives. Which tends to make us panic and most times loose our balance/ composure.

The word worry is derived from an Anglo- Saxon term meaning ‘to strangle or choke off‘. The less you worry, the more ideas, insights, and revelation you will have.

As we dwell on worries about matters beyond our control, a negative effect begins to set in. Too much analysis always leads to much more paralysis. Worry is a route that leads from somewhere to nowhere. Never let it direct nor define your life.

God always reminds us in psalm 55:22, “Cast your burdens upon the Lord, and He shall sustain you: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved”.

Never respond out of fear, and never fear to respond. Action attacks fear: inactions reinforces it.

Don’t worry and don’t fear. Instead, take your fears and worries to the Lord, ” casting all your cares upon Him: for he cares for you “.( 1 Peter 5:7)

Fear not for the Lord is with us!

Every disappointment is a blessing

When I was young, my mum will always sit us down in the evenings to tell us various stories. It’s not as if on those occasions she was less busy but she endeavours to always tell us stories about our family and from the Bible in order that those stories showed us right from wrong and most importantly to show us how much she loves us that she wouldn’t mind telling us stories till we slept off.

But when we grew older she had to buy books instead to increase our vocabulary. I really missed those days because those books didn’t actually give that motherly comfort, assurance and love that mummy’s stories usually gives.

I remember on one ocassion mummy told us a different story, it was neither about our family nor from the Bible. It was the best story ever. I can remember how she said it:

One day an Angel of lord visited a man named Mr Abiodun. The essence of His visit was simply to travel around with Mr. Abiodun and to teach him an important lesson. But this was not known to Mr. Abiodun because he came to Mr Abiodun as an old friend who just wanted to travel around and needed Mr Abiodun’s company. Of which as expected, Mr Abiodun obliged to travelling with him .

On their first journey,  they  walked for miles without stop. But when it was dawn, they came to a village and were lucky to be hosted by a poor man. This poor man had nothing other than his house and a cup.

According to him, the wicked town’s men took everything from him other than the cup; which now cherished as it was his only property. The poor man served them water to drink in the cup and then bide them a good night rest.

Later on, the Angel took the water and the cup and threw it away in the thick bush  where none could find it. Then Mr abiodun sort to drink some water and realized what the Angel had done.

Mr. Abiodun became very furious with the Angel and asked, ” you knew that cup was the only thing that this poor man had, why then did you do this after the man had shown us nothing but love by letting us into his house; why?”. And the Angel simply replied, ‘ Mr Abiodun, hold your peace, such are the ways of the Lord’.

The next day, the set off early in the morning. They walked for a very long time without rest until just before dawn they arrived at a city, where they also lucky to meet a wealthy farmer who provided them shelter in his old but manageable for the night.

The farmer gave them a very warm and good welcome. The farmer provided them with extra food for their journey before their departure.

This time around, not long after they left the town, the Angel said he forgot something very important and needed to go and retrieve in the rich farmers house. On getting there, they realized that the farmer and his wives had already left for the farm and there was none at home.

The Angel, lit fire and set the house ablaze. Mr Abiodun shouted in bewilderment. He was just confused as to what prompted him to do so.Then the Angel made way for them to leave.

Mr Abiodun asked in anger and shock, “why?, He was very kind to us! Why?”.  As they watch the house burn to the ground, the Angel replied, “Mr Abiodun hold your peace, such are the ways of the Lord”.

Mr. Abiodun was very angry. He couldn’t figure out why the Angel was doing all this horrible things to this good people, but for peace sake and for the success of their journey, he tried to remain calm.

Thereafter, they continued their journey. When it was dawn, they arrived at a small town where they were an average family of two; a father and son welcomed them for the night.

The next day, the when they were about return to their journey, the father asked his son to escort them out of the city before he would return home. When the boy had escorted them reached a sea outside the town.

He directed to the route of their path that leads them back to their journey. As he made to return home, the Angel pushed him into the sea; where he drowned to death( because he couldn’t swim)

Mr Abiodun became mad! He screamed, but the Angel shut him up with his hands. “I am no longer going anywhere with you, you are a murderer and a beast, in fact you are a monster! Why on earth did you kill that innocent boy, he never did anything to you!”

“Mr Abiodun hold your peace such are the ways Lord!”,  said the Angel

“Don’t call God in this, you are the one that did all this horrible things not God! Unless you tell me why, I won’t go as far as a step with you”, Mr Abiodun said admist tears. When He realized that Mr Abiodun was hell bent on knowing why?

 There and then the Angel revealed;

“Starting with the first house we stayed, the poor man was deprived of his properties because God wanted him to start his life anew. And the cup that was left behind was poisoned, if we or he had drank from that cup, we would be dead by now.

The second house we stayed; the farmer was wealthy and comfortable in his great grand father’s mud house, which is too old. The farmer was too comfortable in that house to focus and build his own house. So I burnt it so that he could build his own house with his own money.

The last family, God saw that the son was going to be a bad boy in the future, too bad that he would one day kill his own father. That’s why I made him drown to death.

Finally, I came  to show you that everything that God does, He does so for a good reason; either to teach us a lesson, to test us or to bless us. Also, we should always remember that our ways are not God’s ways.( Such are the ways of the Lord”.

Mum is a genius, I never knew  where or how she got this story but, it really taught me a great deal. It shaped my life for better things, and also opened my eyes to see God’s true nature. I hope it does  so to you too.

Talents and skills

The rate at which talents and skills are being vastly maximized here in Nigeria is wonderful to behold. Now, talking about the entertainment aspect of it. We have dance, singing, playing the instruments, drama, comedy and so much more.

When my brother started dancing, I saw it as a play  that was useless, I even discouraged him, simply because I didn’t believe it would work out well for him. Msybe because i wasnt lucky with singing.

But as time went by he made me realize that, while dancing, He got every opportunity to express his feelings, and with every step he makes while dancing, it only shows the world who he really is or should I say, the best in him; l am very proud of him.

I believe that those others that exhibit their talents in their own unique way, does so for reasons best known to them.

So now I urge you to watch them and encourage them as they perform their first edition at living Faith Church, Katsina. I really hope you enjoy their performance. And give drop your feeds by commenting.

I can do it

The best strategy of the enemy is by making you feel incapable of accomplishing anything good. He will remind you of your past mistakes so that even when you do make an effort, your fear of failure will sabotage you; that is called “failure syndrome”.

The enemy wants you to feel so bad about yourself that you will lose all the confidence you have. But the fact is, you don’t need confidence in yourself rather you need confidence in the God who lives within you.

Through Christ, you could do the impossible, including the things you never dreamt of doing on your own.

Once you understand this fact, anytime the devil tells you, ” you can’t do anything right!”

Your response will be, ‘Maybe not, but Jesus in me can; And I am confident that He will! Because I’m not relying on Him alone’. His words tells me, I will succeed in everything I put my hands to ( Joshua 1:7)

Always put this words in your heart, “I can do all things through Christ,( with Him and in Him) who strengthens me.  I am ready for anything and equal to any task through Christ who infuses inner strength into me. I am self sufficient in Christ sufficiency” (Philippians 4:13)
